Jeg lar ikke frykten stoppe meg – jeg hopper i det. I desember 2025 står jeg på scenen i Mexico og konkurrerer i VM i Bachata som 59-åring! Skremmende, men inspirerende.
Can a 59-year-old compete at the world level in Bachata?
Hi, my name is Amelia Fjellvard, and I've taken a little leap into the crazy and wonderful, but also scary - I've signed up!
The Euroson Latino Bachata World Championship in December 2025. This is the beginning of a bold adventure, where the thought of standing on stage in front of an international audience fills me with both excitement and a good dose of nervousness. The goal is to overcome this fear, challenge myself and show that passion has no age limit.
Through this blog, I will take you on my journey to the competition. I will share how I prepare physically, mentally, and emotionally – and hopefully inspire you to dream big and push your limits, no matter where you are in life.
This blog is more than a dance diary. I share the journey towards a dream that challenges everything I thought I could. It's about overcoming insecurities, building courage, and proving that we can achieve more than we think possible. Every time I practice a new dance step, I feel the nerves, but it's through these small victories that I build confidence.
Maybe you too have a dream that feels far out of reach? By following my journey, you can find inspiration to take your own steps towards something you really want.
What would you do if nothing stood in your way?
Through honest reflections, practical tips, and experiences, I share how I work with mental strength and physical fitness. My daily routine includes yoga for flexibility, meditation and breathing techniques for mental focus, strength training and spinning to build endurance, sensory walks that help me connect my body and mind, and of course, lots of dance and technique training to fine-tune each movement. It’s a balancing act between hard work and finding peace, and I hope to show how this can inspire you in your own life. This isn’t just my story—it’s an invitation to explore your own limits.

I am Amelia Fjellvard, a 58-year-old mother of three grown children and grandmother of four grandchildren. I have danced pretty much my entire life and explored different styles, but Bachata is the one I learned most recently – and the one that really stole my heart. I will be well into my 59th year when I am in Mexico. With many years of experience as a teacher and coach, and a deep passion for dance, I am passionate about helping others find balance between body, heart, mind and soul. After many years of Salsa, I discovered Bachata – a dance that combines the energy of Salsa with calmer, more intimate movements – and I fell head over heels.
It may seem crazy, but I've decided to go all in on a dream I never thought I'd dare to pursue: to participate in the Euroson Latino Bachata World Championship as an amateur. The event takes place in Cancun, Mexico, and although the thought of competing against dancers from all over the world may seem daunting, I feel an inner spark that says, "Why not?"
The dream started when a friend in Spain shared that she was considering entering the same competition. The inspiring conversations with her made me think about how we often set limits for ourselves. I asked myself some questions that changed everything, and with the sun shining through the window here in Spain, and the sound of Bachata music in the background, I sit and write this text to you – ready to share my dream and my journey.
What is the dream you once had but put aside? Maybe it's time to bring it back to life?
Here you get access to:
Through my experiences, I hope to inspire you to challenge your own limits and find your passion in life.
Maybe you can also take the first steps towards a dream you have had for a long time?
We live in a society that often puts people in boxes based on age. I refuse to let the numbers on my birth certificate define who I am or what I can achieve. My message is clear: Never let age define the limits of what you can achieve. Your passion deserves to flourish, no matter the numbers on your birth certificate. Through this blog, I want to show that passion and courage have no age limit.
Passion knows no age, and dreams have no expiration date.
Do you have a dream you want to share, or a story about breaking your own boundaries?
