Targeted dance training towards the World Championships – Technique, flow and mastery

Preparing for dance is about much more than perfecting the steps. It’s about building strength, stamina, and body control to express emotion through movement and create a deep connection with the music. It’s a holistic process where I strengthen my technique, develop my musicality, and build both physical stamina and stage presence. Each training session brings me closer to my goal: to express myself freely with power, precision, and passion on stage.

What does it take to become a good dancer?

A good dancer combines physical and mental understanding, where knowledge, skills and attitude merge into a whole.

  • Balance: The ability to maintain stability and control in movements is crucial for fluidity and precision. Balance and a strong core are especially important when spinning, for example, as it provides stability and control throughout the rotations.
  • Coordination: Good coordination between arms, legs and body ensures smooth and harmonious movements.
  • Technique: Proper execution of steps, isolations and bodywork gives the dance a professional quality.
  • Musicality: Dance is about interpreting the music and letting the rhythm guide the movements in a natural way.
  • Endurance: A strong body that can move powerfully and controlled over time, without losing energy or expression.
  • Movement quality: Soft, controlled and graceful movements give the dance a more natural flow.

Which of these skills do you feel you need to develop the most?

What are you doing to improve it?

Structured training for maximum development

Technique training requires effort and a clear focus, and physical progression takes time. Dance challenges endurance, fitness, core strength, balance, and coordination—skills that require effort and dedication. But even though it's a job, it fills my heart with joy.

Each training session is composed of different elements to ensure holistic development:

  • Warm-up and mobility: Activation of the core muscles and increased flexibility provide a good start to the workout.
  • Technique and body isolation: Systematic work with the hips, upper and lower body control and precise steps create the characteristic Bachata flow.
  • Musicality and expression: The dance is guided by the music. I practice interpreting rhythms, accents and pauses to allow the movements to blend naturally with the music. This is also about knowing when to work with footwork, when to incorporate more sensual movements, and when tricks and acrobatics fit in to create dynamics in the dance.
  • Movement quality technique: Small adjustments make a big difference in how the dance is experienced. I work daily to make the movements more natural, softer and more graceful.
  • Fitness and endurance: To be able to perform through an entire choreography without losing power and flow, I include endurance training through long dance sequences.

To develop as a dancer and achieve my goals, I have a structured approach to training. This ensures that I work on all the essential aspects of dance, from technique to endurance. My daily dance training consists of:

  • Posture: Awareness of lines and posture for better aesthetics and control.
  • Strength: Physical strength to perform movements with precision and endurance.
  • Balance and coordination: Stability and control in movements.
  • Technique: Precision in hips, steps and body isolation.
  • Musicality: Interpret rhythms and accents naturally.
  • Endurance: Endurance training through long dance sequences to maintain energy and flow.

I often film my workouts to analyze my movements and discover details that can be refined. This is an invaluable tool for seeing progression over time.

Salsa – Speed, precision and rhythm

Even though I compete in Bachata, Salsa is an important part of my training because it challenges me in several areas:

  • Fast and precise footwork: Salsa sharpens the precision of Bachata through smooth and controlled movements at a high tempo.
  • Coordination and dynamics: Explosive movements help me master rapid weight changes and gain better body control.
  • Endurance: The intensity of salsa builds fitness and endurance, while breathing techniques help me control the tempo and flow of the dance.

Mentally and physically prepared for the World Cup

Preparing for the World Championships is not only about technique and physical endurance, but also about mental strength. The road to it is demanding, and it is important to find the driving force that keeps you motivated through challenging days.

Overcoming challenges and finding strength

I have always let dance be a part of my life, but the road to here has not been without challenges. There have been days when doubt has crept in, when my body has felt heavy, and when the fear of not being good enough has been overwhelming. Yet I have risen again, finding strength in the rhythms, in the music, and in the joy of expressing myself through dance. This is not just a physical journey towards the World Championships – it is a mental journey to prove that passion and dedication can move mountains.

The journey to the World Championships is nerve-wracking. I feel like I’m not quite ready yet, but I’m looking forward to the moment when I’m on stage, letting the music fill me and feeling the freedom in every movement. Every training session brings me closer to this moment – when my body feels stronger, my movements become smoother, and I feel one with the music.

The way forward

To deal with the pressure, I challenge myself daily, both physically and mentally. Making dance videos is an important part of the process – not just to improve my technique, but to build confidence in performing. It’s not just about mastering the dance, but about personal growth.

This is more than a competition – it is my path to the World Championships, a journey to prove that passion has no age, and that focused training and dedication can lead to great achievements. Now, with dance as my driving force and music as my inspiration, I am ready to take the next step.

Dance is not just movement. It is a story told with the body.
